March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to equality and emancipation all around the world. The perfect time for a chat with Jill Peeters, Gigue ambassador, weather forecaster and leading lady in science!
Jill is a sustainability pioneer both locally and internationally. She has already been honoured with several prestigious awards for her work, which, for the past 10 years, she has proudly done wearing Gigue looks. Read the full interview with Gigue ambassador Jill Peeters below.
We met Jill in the news studio near the Antwerp Central Station, where we found her diligently preparing the weather forecast for the evening. Despite her busy schedule, she gave us her full attention when we asked her to reflect on International Women’s Day and what it means to her.
I’m still not used to being called an inspirational woman. But I have learned to appreciate it as a form of recognition. Over the years, I have discovered who I am, what my talents are and what drives me. It’s great to know that perhaps I can pass that on to others and inspire them
I am particularly inspired by the work of young women. First and foremost, my own three daughters. But I have also met young enterprising women like Geraldine Louis and Sarah Parent, who are actively committed to fighting climate change, planting trees through their organisations. I think that's fantastic. Seeing their work keeps me motivated.
I dream of a better world. A world that is more resilient and flexible, because that is what we are desperately going to need. Our climate has been disrupted, with things only set to get worse with these extreme weather events in the decades ahead. To live comfortably, we will undoubtedly need flexibility and resilience. I believe that together we can move towards a better world.
I am happy to see that more and more women are now choosing to study and work in the exact sciences. We need that. My advice for them is: listen. Listen to the people who are already active in the field. Learn to listen and absorb what they have to say, and then write your own story. That takes time, so be kind to yourself and take the time you need. In my experience, the journey is always more important than the final destination.
When I put on a Gigue look in the morning, I feel empowered. I feel bigger and stronger. It gives a sense of security and femininity. The latter has become more important to me over the years. It’s a blissful feeling.
I love putting on my Gigue coat in winter. Every year I look forward to seeing Gigue’s new coats. In summer, I absolutely love the dresses.
While I do wear bright colours, I mainly go for Gigue looks that exude natural strength. Beautiful materials and shades, as well as a harmonious, natural look – that’s what I love.
Jill has been a Gigue ambassador for 10 years. We are proud to be by her side at every milestone of her richly filled life. Whenever you spot Jill on TV, at an awards ceremony or in her spare time, she will undoubtedly be wearing a Gigue look. After our inspiring conversation, she left for the recording studio, ready to forecast – hopefully – beautiful weather in a royal blue jumper from the new Gigue Spring-Summer 2023 collection.
